Dr. Chua Boon Liang

Boon Liang has been a mathematics educator for almost three decades. He taught Mathematics and Additional Mathematics in secondary schools from 1994 to 2002, was appointed Head of Department for Mathematics in 1997 and was later invited to head the Mathematics Department of a new secondary school in 2000. In 2003, he joined the National Institute of Education (NIE) as a teacher educator at the invitation of the then Head of Mathematics and Mathematics Education Academic Group.
For nearly 20 years at NIE, Boon Liang had conducted courses not only for pre-service teachers and graduate students. but also for in-service teachers. He had also conducted numerous professional development courses for overseas mathematics teachers from ASEAN countries, Brazil, Cambodia, China, Guinea, Hong Kong, Jamaica, Sri Lanka, and The Philippines.
Boon Liang obtained his PhD in mathematics education from the Institute of Education, University College London, UK. He was awarded Excellence in Teaching by the National Institute of Education in 2009, 2013 and 2020.

In 2022, Boon Liang was invited to develop teaching resources for MOE (Brazil) in January and completed this project in August. From September to November, he was consulted by an EduTech firm. In October, he was invited as a Guest Lecturer to speak to graduate students at The Education University of Hong Kong. From October to November, he conducted professional development workshops for a group of mathematics teachers in India.
